Privacy
Your information, treated with care.
This notice explains what Align collects, how profile visibility works, and how information is used to operate the member network.
Effective August 2, 2026
Information we collect
When you create an Align account, we collect account information such as your name, email address, authentication provider, account status, and account timestamps. If you complete a member profile, we also collect the profile, category, university or education details, biography, interests, privacy choices, notification preferences, verification submission, and event or webinar registrations that you choose to provide.
We do not ask for or store your password ourselves. Password credentials are handled by Firebase Authentication.
Profile photographs are stored in Firebase Storage. University verification email addresses and review information are kept in the private member profile and are not published in the member directory.
How we use information
We use this information to operate and secure the Align network, verify accounts and university affiliations, create the public profile fields you approve, provide university directories, manage event and webinar registration, and communicate service-related information. We do not sell personal information.
Profile visibility and your choices
Your privacy settings determine whether your university, major, graduation year, city, Instagram, LinkedIn, and directory listing are included in the member-facing public profile projection. Private account records, verification email addresses, notification preferences, and hidden fields are not placed in that projection.
You can update your profile and privacy choices from Align. You may also ask us to correct or delete information by contacting privacy@alignusa.org.
Storage, access, and retention
Align uses Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, file storage, and trusted backend operations. Security rules restrict private records to their owner and authorised administrators, while protected network content is limited to eligible authenticated members.
We retain information for as long as needed to provide and secure the service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. A limited number of authorised administrators may access private information when necessary to review verification requests, support members, or protect the platform.
Changes
We may update this notice as Align develops. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date.
